I went to the “Munich Institute for Astro-, Particle and BioPhysics” (MIAPbP) to participate in a topical workshop on “The Road to Differentiable and Probabilistic Programming in Fundamental Physics” for two weeks.
I had a great time speaking to various people and listening to many talks. Topics included
- Simulation-based Bayesian inference
- Auto-differentiating techniques on various stages of code design, compilation and execution
- Sampling techniques using gradient information in high dimensions
- Probabilistic programming languages
among many others. In particular, I collected some interesting ideas on how to model the Galactic velocity field in my own work. There is lots to try out now!
